Opening Reception Artist-in-Residence Glen Foerd

Opening reception for site-specific installation –entitled 'An openness to all things lovely'– situated in Florence Tonner's former bedroom in the historic estate of Glen Foerd on the Delaware. A loose narrative of possession, loss and fragmented history unfolds within the period room.

A suite of thirteen  large-scale paintings created specifically for the site will fill the paneled recesses - connecting the interior to the estate's cucumber magnolia.  This tree pre-dates the home in any form; its repeated, painted presence both encases and opens the space.  A video exploring the role of the artist as interloper will be featured along with trunks containing fragmented reproductions and textiles, sorted and compartmentalized, that relate to the artist's interventions in the art gallery on the 2nd floor.

The project builds on research conducted while in residency at Glen Foerd; it incorporates Florence Tonner's poetry, artifacts and correspondence, interwoven with contemporary poetry, inquiries into the nature of collecting, the contraints of excess, and the sympathetic magic of artifact.
