Philadelphia Open Studio Tours | October 7, 2017 | Artist PD Packard

Open Workshop on Itajime Shibori: Japanese Decorative Papermaking and Pysanky: Ukrainian Egg Decorating

During the POST event, artist PD Packard will be demonstrating Itajime Shibori + the Ukrainian egg decorating method, Pysanky in the Heavy Bubble HQ at 1241 Carpenter Studios, located in South Philadelphia.

A 1000 years old method of decorative papermaking, Itajime Shibori is created by pleating, folding, clamping and then dying the paper or fabric, producing beautiful repeat patterns that are always a surprise.

Open to the public and free of charge, this event will be a hands-on experience of expression and creativity through unlimited pattern and color.

Since 2011, PD Packard has been creating cooperative learning experiences with elementary & middle school children by teaching workshops on Itajime Shibori, Chinese brush painting and bookbinding in the Boerum Hill and Prospect Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn, NY and at POST|East 2015.
